snowshoe tour grading

These snowshoe tours will be enjoyed by people who live normal healthy lifestyles that include regular aerobic exercise. The trips vary in difficulty and you don't have to be super fit for many of them. However, the better your fitness, the more energy you will have to enjoy the views, the company and the overall experience of your trip. Your leader will set a regular and steady pace that conserves energy, is not too fast and which allows you to enjoy the trip.

moderate trip grading

For healthy, active people who are regular walkers. You may have no specific winter walking or snowshoe experience. Typically between 3-4 hours walking a day with an average ascent/descent of 300-600m. You will need to carry a day pack containing spare clothing, the basic safety equipment, your camera, lunch and something to drink each day.

demanding trip grading

Typically between 5-6 hours walking with an average ascent/descent of 600-800m at moderate altitudes upto about 3000m. Days in this category will be enjoyed by fit, active hill walkers, although you may have no winter walking experience this would be equivalent to walking in the Lakes and Snowdonia or Scotland. You will need to carry a day pack containing spare clothing, the basic safety equipment, your camera, lunch and something to drink each day. Preparation: it is likely you will be enjoying regular aerobic exercise every week with frequent hill walking days out.

challenging trip grading

Typically between 7-8 hours a day's walking with an average ascent/descent of 800-1200m. This may take you over 3000m in altitude. These tours are for fit, active walkers who have previous snowshoe and/or winter walking experience in the Lakes and Snowdonia or Scotland. You will need to carry a day pack containing spare clothing, the basic safety equipment, your camera, lunch and something to drink each day. Preparation: you will be enjoying regular aerobic exercise every week with frequent hill walking days out.

Grading tends to be subjective and can be influenced by how you feel on the day. In winter, more than in the summer, the prevailing weather conditions and quality of the snow can significantly change how a day feels. The following general descriptions are to give you an idea of what’s involved. If you have any questions relating to your fitness or walking experience please get in touch, these privately guided tours are for you to enjoy and are designed according to your ideas and aspirations.
