6 ways to show you love the Alps
I came across Coast Projects One Planet Tourism and thought how good it would be to adapt their simple checklist for my tours in the Alpine environment. As they say, small steps...big impacts.
Small steps...big impacts
Wherever we go and whatever we do we have an impact, make positive choices and you can help us care for the Alps and make that impact a positive one.
Follow the Leave No Trace principles
Plan Ahead and Prepare, Leave What You Find, Respect Wildlife, Dispose of Waste Properly, Be Considerate of Other Visitors Read more about Leave No Trace principles.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
In the Alps we recycle! You can help us by refusing packaging and bags you don’t need, and using the recycling banks you’ll see in most main car parks and beside the roads across the area. And if you can recycle where you’re staying - please do. Even better!
Buy Local, See Local, Stay Local
Buy local - and you’ll see what the Alps can offer, and benefit the communities of the region. Visit the local stalls at the village markets, farm shops, village stores, bars and cafes. Stay in the locally owned hotels, chalets and accommodation. Our distinctive culture shines through the many community events that happen throughout the year - and the food and wine is simply fantastic...
Chill out - Switch Off!
You can see the stars at night in the Alps! Help us reduce light pollution, energy use and CO2 emissions by switching off lights and all those standby buttons when you don’t need them. Help us reduce water consumption by using just the water you need; and then sit back and enjoy that view...
Walking and cycling are great ways to see the area if you extend your stay, without adding to traffic. Use public transport if you need to travel within the valley or to your start point. In the Chamonix valley your accomodation provider can give you a ‘carte d’hote’ with which the trains and buses in the valley are free! And there are some fantastic places to see right on your doorstep...just ask! Transport in the Chamonix Valley
Join us and love the trekking!
Take lots of photos, collect great stories and inspire your friends.
